Documentation
Find Any Footage is a remote MCP connector. It gives Claude tools that search inside public-domain archive films, shot by shot, and cut trimmed clips of the shots you choose. Every shot in the index has been described from its frames, so a search finds the moment in the film, not just the film. Nothing is installed on your computer, and nothing is AI-generated.
Set up
Connector address: https://findanyfootage.com/api/mcp. You sign in once with an email code or a Google account.
- Claude (web, desktop, iPhone, Android): add it in one click, or Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http find-any-footage https://findanyfootage.com/api/mcp, then /mcp to sign in. - Cursor and other MCP apps: add
{"url": "https://findanyfootage.com/api/mcp"}to your MCP settings.
Tools
search_footage(query, decade, colour, source, live_footage_only, limit (all but query optional))- Finds the shots that match a description and returns each with its shot_id, start and end time in the film, a preview image, the licence and the archive page. One search per shot you need.
get_shot(shot_id)- Shows a shot's full description and keywords, the shots just before and after it (to widen a clip), the licence, the archive field it was read from, and the credit line.
get_clip(shot_id, pad_seconds (optional))- Cuts the shot from the archive's best copy into an H.264 MP4 and returns a download link that works for 7 days. Uses one of your monthly downloads. pad_seconds adds that many seconds of the neighbouring shots on each side.
check_clip(clip_id)- Returns the link for a clip that is still being cut (large NASA originals can take a minute).
credits(shot_ids)- Writes the credit lines for the shots you used, grouped by film, with the licence evidence, ready for a video description.
my_usage(none)- Shows the signed-in account, its plan, downloads used this month and the size of the index.
whoami(none)- Shows which account the connector is signed in with. Useful to check the connection.
Example prompts
- Here's my script about the space race. Find archive footage for each paragraph and make a shot list with timecodes.
- Find public-domain shots of a 1950s family watching television. Black and white only.
- Get me a clip of shot 3754, then give me the credits for everything we used.
- Find NASA footage of a rocket engine test with a big exhaust cloud. Live footage only, no animation.
Sources and limits
- Sources today: the Prelinger Archives (public-domain items only) and NASA's Image and Video Library. More are being added; see licences.
- Clips are cut from the archive's best copy. Old films are often 640×480; NASA originals go up to 1080p (larger files are scaled to 1920 wide).
- Shots longer than 60 seconds are clipped from their middle.
- Free plan: unlimited search, previews and credits, and 10 clip downloads a month. Pro: 300 downloads a month (pricing). Search is limited to 100 a day.
- Descriptions are written by an AI model and can be wrong. Check the preview before you download.
Privacy
The connector receives only what Claude sends to a tool: your search text and the shots you pick. It doesn't read your conversations, memory or files. Clips you download are deleted after 7 days. Full details: privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
- No good match: try describing what is on screen rather than the event's name, and drop filters.
- A clip starts or ends a moment early: ask for it again with pad_seconds, or use get_shot to pick the neighbouring shot.
- “Still cutting”: large source files take up to a minute; Claude fetches the link with check_clip.
- Pro doesn't show in Claude: ask Claude to run
my_usageand check the email matches the one on your account page. - Anything else: support@wikivec.com.
